Jesse Mangan, host of the Committable podcast, joins me with the Medicare For All podcast team. “Usually on the Medicare for All Podcast, we talk about people who want healthcare but can’t get it, but today we’re talking about people getting healthcare they have specifically refused: folks who have been involuntarily committed. For plenty of our listeners, the idea of being held against your will at a psychiatric institution feels like a nightmare from another time – something out of gothic fiction or horror movies set far in the past… In fact… a 2020 UCLA study found that in the 25 states where they actually keep data on this, the numbers of involuntary psych detentions have been sharply rising in recent years.” Listen here.
I’m a imprisoned from 16 till now. 1 year at boarding school. 14 years mental hospital. Suspect fraud in my case. Everytime I go to the hospital Drs ask same questions, never telling me why I was there even after I asked. I was false reported on by many people. Never was there a hurt person or damaged goods. Many times the dispute with the corrupt party was over religious or moral questions. I’d like to be in email correspondence with anyone who wants to hear my story and share theirs. That includes media and mental health off duty professionals
I’m really sorry to hear that. You can find some others who’ve been through these experiences on social media, at the Mad in America website, on Reddit eg the Antipsychiatry group etc…
