Did they think twice about using a non-biodegradable, environmentally persistent toxic chemical as a pesticide when they awarded the Nobel Prize to the inventor of DDT? And then I think, hmm, are we thinking today about the ramifications of widespread use of throw-away plastics which take a thousand years or more to break down?</description>

Was there ever any real projection decades ago about the social costs of automobile use?
Were their actual city planners planning for congestion and all the noise, toxic exhaust and stress that accompany this?
Did they look at human habits too: like driving around and around to find the closest parking spot.?
Or using the car as a weapon?</description>
